AHA Honey: Terms and Conditions
1. Hive Pre-Inspection & Placement
Prior to the commencement of the hive rental, AHA Honey requires a pre-inspection with the new tenant to discuss the optimal placement of the hive(s) and access points. The tenant must provide details of the preferred location for vehicle access on the application form. Please also specify your preferred date and time for the inspection.
2. Tenant Responsibility for Neighbor Notification
Whether the hive is located in a rural or urban area, it is the responsibility of the hive tenant to inform their neighbors about the intention to keep a beehive on the property. AHA Honey shall not be held liable for any disputes or issues arising from bee activity, including but not limited to swarming, bee stings, allergic reactions, or other related concerns.
3. Hive Maintenance & Inspections
AHA Honey will service the hive twice per month and will notify the tenant in advance of the inspection date. Should the condition of the hive warrant more frequent visits, AHA Honey reserves the right to increase the frequency of inspections at no additional cost to the tenant.
4. Payment Terms & Late Fees
Payments are due before the specified due date. Late payments will incur penalties. AHA Honey will issue two reminders if payment is not received. If payment remains outstanding after these reminders, AHA Honey reserves the right to retrieve the hive from the tenant.
5. Liability for Hive Loss
AHA Honey is not liable for the loss of colonies due to external factors, including but not limited to:
- Disease exposure (e.g., American Foulbrood)
- Poor practices by the tenant (e.g., unauthorized interference with the hive)
- Environmental factors (e.g., farm animals disrupting the bees, flooding, falling trees)
- Pests such as Varroa mites
In the event of colony loss, no refunds will be offered. However, AHA Honey will monitor the health of the hive through regular inspections and will take proactive measures where possible.
6. Tenant Interaction with Hive
AHA Honey advises against tenants independently visiting or working with their hive unless they possess the necessary skills and knowledge to do so. If a tenant chooses to visit the hive, AHA Honey must be informed in advance, including details of the actions taken and any outcomes observed.
7. Honey Extraction & Packaging
At the end of the season, AHA Honey offers honey extraction, packing, and testing services for an additional fee. The honey will be delivered in 10 kg buckets based on the volume of the harvest. Alternatively, AHA Honey can package the honey into smaller jars, and a quote will be provided based on the volume and packaging requirements.
8. Termination of Hive Rental
If the tenant no longer wishes to continue with the hive rental, AHA Honey will arrange for the collection of the hive(s) once all outstanding payments have been settled in full.
9. Hive Tenant Training Sessions
For tenants who wish to become more involved in the management of their hive(s), AHA Honey offers personalized training sessions at a rate of $150 per 3-hour session. These sessions can be scheduled upon request.
10. Purchase of Equipment & Ongoing Maintenance
Should a tenant prefer to purchase their own hives, supers, bee suits, clothing, honey extractors, or other equipment, AHA Honey can assist with the installation and ongoing maintenance. The maintenance service is available for $50 per month.
